Earlier this month we announced that our newest feature, My Recruit, had launched into public beta. My Recruit gives UserTesting customers the ability to create and launch a study with anyone, anytime—on demand.

Part of what makes My Recruit such a great feature is that it gives companies the ability to get insights from unique demographics that may not be on the UserTesting panel—people that may not be familiar with user research.

In addition to making sure the experience was great for our customers, we also wanted to share what the experience is like from the test participant’s point of view, too.

In our last post, we focused on what the experience is like for our customers. Today we’d like to share what the experience is like for test participants recruited through My Recruit. Here’s what your participants will see when invited to join a study set up using My Recruit:

Step 1: The invitation

My Recruit participants will first be notified that they’ve been selected as a test participant by you. Typically this is done via email but can be shared in any way that enables you to include a link to the test (e.g. Slack, company intranet, instant messenger, etc.).

Participants will be provided with whatever information you’d like to share (a handy email template is provided for your use when you set up your test) along with a link that grants them access to the test.

Step 2: Installing the browser extension or app

Your test participants will need to install either a Chrome browser extension for desktop (test participants that don’t use Chrome will be instructed to download UserTesting’s Screen Recorder software) or the UserTesting Engage app for mobile to participate in your study. After a participant clicks the link to ‘get started’ they’ll be guided through the appropriate steps.

Step 3: Testing tips

Before your participants begin their test, they’ll be given a few tips to help assure their test runs smoothly, including pointers on using the recorder, disabling notifications, and setting up the microphone.

Step 4: Completing the test

Once the test participant is ready, they’re free to begin sharing their insights! After they’ve completed their test they’ll be thanked for participating and notified that their test has been submitted to you.
