I have been "working" for this company off and on for the better part of 5 years now, and probably know how they "work" (and that's really stretching the word) is they basically leave everything on the customer (the person that submits tests). The problem comes from the fact that, most of the customers who submit tests, seem to either get no "best practices" for posting their tests, or have no repercussions for posting bad ones, while testers are asked entirely too much and will get disqualified for the most pointless non-sense. Starting with the customers, being overly specific, will guarantee no one returns any tests for you, which someone here complained about, to this person, you're part of the problem. We aren't rich millionaires, rich millionaires, aren't visiting a site like this, and UserTesting doesn't seek the people you need out, it's just whoever happens to be available. To follow this up, to someone who said "because I'm black", no, there are tests that get SO specific as to ask for a language or ethnicity that would NEVER visit a site like this, the customers are just asking for impossible standards. For the testers, yes, you will spend more time being rejected than getting accepted, see the previous block of text directed at the customers. My BF got disqualified for no reason and banned, they seem to do it at random, with no reason, or because they aren't "hiring" because they've met some arbitrary number, so far as I can tell. Finally, if a customer happens to write up a test that makes absolutely no sense, but you're still able to answer the questions, so far as YOU can tell, but the customer decides they didn't like your interpretation of their vaguely worded garbage, one star for you, and UserTesting will find ANY excuse to side with the customer. I'm not banned yet, but it seems like a lose-lose situation, and I'm sure this review won't help. The only way to stick around, assuming you can get in, is to just NOT take tests for a month or two until the 1 stars you'll inevitably get because someone can't accept their google translated questions are barely understandable is THEIR fault, drop off.
