Powerful synthesis, but an overall clunky experience
What do you like best about the product?
The synthesis tools are good for looking at research holistically across clicks and replies. I also appreciate watching videos and the ease of creating, sharing, and stringing together video clips.
What do you dislike about the product?
The program is slow, and the menu options are hard to find. It takes a few times to remember all the settings and how to adjust them. It's also difficult to copy data out of the tool if you need to access it later. I like that I have the option to use my own panel, but their panel is very well trained. I've found the feedback from their trained users to be slightly biased due to their testing experience. Users also struggle to move the controls out of the way during testing and remember to see the prompt. They really struggle with the interface, and it can bias results. The old interface was a bit smoother for users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Usability and click testing. It can be nice to have a consistently test that I don't need to modify.
Jenny's UT Review
What do you like best about the product?
I really like the read aloud and fresh eyes features as they allow me to reach a diverse group of individuals and I can get a more concise answer versus if someone only types a response. User testing also provides nice analytics of questions in an excel export which is really helpful. I also appreciate that on the scaled rating questions, UT allows for unique scales (ex. Least -Most Importance)
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there was more robustness in creating screener questions. As I am not a researcher and do not have much experimental design experience, I struggle with coming up with proper screeners. Sometimes I think people are able to cheat the system. Also, I wish that UT would have a question feature where people can rank multiple choices (ex. place these 5 features in order of importance.) Sometimes, the transcriptions are a bit clunky so I find myself having to go back through the recordings.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take advantage of their academy and training videos. They offer a lot of good resources that can help you create better tests and get the most out of the tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are getting answers as to the usability or our solution along with feature preference. Our team is very much focused on evidence based experimentation and UT allows us to quickly gain that evidance and then persevere or pivot as necessary. ALso, we have noticed an increased time savings since we do not have to fill out paper work for each UT interview or experiment that we run.
User testing review
What do you like best about the product?
That I'm able to make money for completing pretty basic tasks. It's fun to give feedback and know that my opinion is being valued. I also like that I can participate whenever I want. Everything is on my own time, in terms of trying to participate in surveys. I can keep trying to enter in a lot or a little. I like having that control.
What do you dislike about the product?
Waiting to see if I've been accepted into a survey. I feel like the wait time is quite lengthy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a great product and makes user research easy!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've been able to solve lots of different problems with UserTesting. From providing feedback about sports bras to UX issues, it ranges quite nicely. As a UX Designer for a company, it's really nice to see participation in user research.

Best Qualitative Testing Tool for UX
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to ask any question of a subset of our users and the ability to use pre filled surveys to help get started. Being able to set screener questions has also helped us isolate new demographics and get a fresh look on our product from markets we currently are not reaching with conventional marketing. The staff at UserTesting is also very helpful in explaining new features and regularly checks in on us to see if we are getting the most out of the platform. These meetings allow us to bring up any roadblocks, suggest features and get tutorials if needed on areas of the platform we are not familiar with.
What do you dislike about the product?
Watching all the videos can be time intensive but using NPS scores and other tools to make analysis a bit easier has helped. Being able to create roadblock questions and dependent questions would allow for better analysis on some of our tests. At our current plan level we do not have multiple users who can create tests. It would be a great option to add the ability for any user to draft up a test with the administrator being the stop gap for approval. This would allow my team to create test independently and submit them for review.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
UserTesting allows us to test a product idea before we go to market with it. By getting insight from actual users it allows us to decide whether a product is viable before we put all of the work in to develop it. This saves us a ton of time on building products no one uses, which we have done in the past before UT. Never before have we been able to get access to our users and potential users and get a complete summary and notes on their experiences with our site.
Simple yet effective and robust at getting insightful data!
What do you like best about the product?
I love how simple the interface and how easy it is to launch projects
What do you dislike about the product?
The preview mode is confusing because it doesn't reflect what users see. Formating tasks for studies could be better too.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're looking for a simple tool that can help support your organization by gathering feedback quickly from your customers and users unmoderated studies are great to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Trying to improve the usability of our online learning platform. It's great for unmoderated studies because it simulates the actual user's experience.
Easy to use, valuable data to share
What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to make comments that align with the video time stamp. In addition, hightlight reels are invaluable for sharing with upper management.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the clip length is pre-determined and is too long, I then need to go back and adjust it which then requires me to watch the clip a few times to make sure I have the right timestamp. I also feel like screener questions don't always work well, since there is a big incentive to take a test from the users perspective, they may fudge their answers in the screener. This may just be more diligence on our side to make sure we have the right information.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it out - all you need to do is run one test to see the full benefits of it. It sells itself really.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We want to take new pages and products to market, but need to know how the general public will react - that's at a high level. On a more granular level, we are looking to see if people notice, and then think about using some of the features we want to invest time in. We've been surprised more often than not with how people either don't see something we thought was obvious, or find a round about way of achieving a task we set. We use Hotjar as a recording tool for our live environment, and while we can see people struggle with our live site, we need UserTesting to help fill in the gaps and hear how people might struggle and what they expect should happen. So while we have other "recording tools", UserTesting allows us that direct connection and conversation with customers.
Good but expensive
What do you like best about the product?
Transcription feature. Save a lot of time
What do you dislike about the product?
Money and access to a specific user group
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Making it cheaper. It's useful when you want mass approach in getting feedback.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Verbatim are quite important and it helps to gather consensus in notes when we have transcripts ready
Great tool for quick research
What do you like best about the product?
UserTesting is great at getting your team quick insights into your product. It excels at a fast turnaround, often times within the same day. This is great when you need to get some simple usability feedback on a prototype or on a live product.
What do you dislike about the product?
UserTesting is not always great for more in depth studies. It depends on the type of insights you are looking for. I also think that the participants in their panel tend to skew more tech savvy than the general population. If I want a more representative sample of the general population, I may go for other methods of sourcing research participants.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My team supports our company's Incubator. We move really fast and need to get quick feedback on our new product ideas. UserTesting has been very effective at allowing us to get quick usability feedback. We also use the Live Conversations tool when we run our design sprint kickoff so we can quickly interview participants that fit our target persona.
Love this tool for quick and valuable feedback
What do you like best about the product?
Usertesting allows us to get feedback about our website from real people, very quickly. You can screen the users to ensure they meet your criteria. Generally we get results back within an hour, it has never taken more than a day. I like that you can take notes directly in the videos, so that you can easily find your spot later on. You can also create highlight reels and share them with your team members.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be nice if I could do all my analysis and notes in user testing's site. Right now I am able to create notes on the video, and share clips, but I'd love to have a space to easily record and share higher level insights. No, you don't get the subtle observations that you would in an in person usability test, but this tool lets you get quick feedback to build up to an eventual in person test that may be more valuable than if you hadn't done any online tests first.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take the time to speak with their support and customer representatives, they are very helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
